What are some of the most common problems with truck mounted cranes?

If you are coming to JE-CO Truck & Trailer for truck mounted crane repair services in Denver, Colorado, then chances are you are experiencing one or more of the following issues. When a truck mounted crane is heavily used for a long period of time, certain issues can arise that will require repairs by expert technicians.

The lifting capacity of the boom is decreasing

If the lifting capacity of your boom is decreasing, it can indicate that your oil pump is failing. When the oil pump fails, you will notice that your boom will not be able to lift the materials. Check your oil pump. If the oil level in the tank is insufficient, you can add in hydraulic oil. If the oil filter has a clog in it, clean it out.

The hydraulic system pressure is far too low

If your truck is indicating that your hydraulic pressure is low, this could mean that there is a leak somewhere. Check all of your pipes and components to make sure there is no bubbling or pooling up of liquid. If there is in fact a leak somewhere, you will be able to see it.

The winch is weak

If your boom winch is weak, it could mean that the winch motor or the plunger oil need replacement. Try to change the plunger motor oil in your winch. If that doesn’t work, you may need a new winch motor entirely.

What are some different types of truck mounted cranes?

A mobile crane truck is a crane that is mounted to a heavy truck chassis so that it can lift, lower, extend and move heavy materials up and down and side to side. Truck mounted crane trucks are commonly seen on construction sites where buildings are going up, roadways are being built, bridges are going up, and for people who are having pools installed in their backyards. There are also a few different types of truck mounted cranes. To understand truck mounted crane repair services in Denver, Colorado, it is beneficial to understand about the different types of truck mounted cranes:

Stiff Boom Cranes

Commonly referred to as a ‘Telescopic’ or ‘Straight Boom Crane,’ these cranes utilize a hydraulic winch to lift heavy materials and move them horizontally and vertically. The boom is the steel arm of the crane that is used to hold materials and maneuver them around a jobsite. The boom of these trucks can be rotated, lifted, and the winch can be moved up and down.

Folding Boom Crane

A Folding Boom Crane, or commonly referred to as ‘Loader Cranes,’ ‘Picker Cranes,’ or ‘Articulating Cranes,’ is a crane that can work in tight areas. These trucks have 2 cranes mounted on them, a main boom and an outer boom. These booms have knuckles in them, much like human fingers, that allow them to go up and down at different angles as well as rotate 360 degrees. They also have a winch that can be used to lift materials up and down.

Hydraulic Crane

Hydraulic Cranes work much like Stiff Boom Cranes in the way that they have range of motion. Hydraulic Cranes can be rotated, extended, lifted, and the winch can lower and raise heavy materials. The difference between Hydraulic Cranes and other cranes is that the Hydraulic Crane has unparalleled lifting power due to its internal hydraulic lifting system. Hydraulic Cranes are also extremely stable because the truck they are mounted to can have extendable arms to increase the center or gravity.
